Columbia River Steelhead Fishing Trip
November through February marks prime time when it comes to winter steelhead fishing on the Columbia River and its tributaries. Washington’s strongest winter steelhead returns are in the Cowlitz River and Lewis River, and I have many years of experience in fishing both rivers.
We fish for winter steelhead many ways, including free-drifting, backtrolling bait and/or plugs, drift-fishing, and more. How and where winter steelhead are pursued often comes down to river conditions, and we’re ready to go where we need to, and fish multiple ways, in order to catch steelhead.
July through September are prime months for targeting summer steelhead on the Columbia River and its tributaries. We fish for summer steelhead the same way as for winter steelhead, utilizing the latest gear and most effective techniques to help you catch more fish. Anchoring in seams and letting out spinners is very productive for catching summer steelhead, as is fishing with shrimp, worms, eggs, yarn balls, and more.
