Greetings!
June is prime time to catch trophy Sturgeon. The river level is great and so is water temp. I'm fishing below Bonneville Dam and catching 15-20 Shad, first thing in the morning. Next step is down river below marker 85 for awesome STURGEON ACTION. 3-5 fish in the 200lb plus range. A keeper or two with as many shakers as you want! That's AVERAGE! We do have days we call GOOD fishing. Put an "X" on the calendar and enjoy the scenic gorge for some world class fishing.
Estuary Sturgeon has been slow to date but should improve as June is peak time for keeper size Sturgeon in the lower river.
Great weather and fishing the mighty Columbia is as good as it gets. Give me a shout if I can help in any way! Tight Lines-Dan Ponciano

Greeting and Happy new year to all!
2009 fishing forecasts present us with very encouraging news. 300,000 Spring Salmon returning ABOVE Bonneville Dam. Sturgeon are biting as we speak on both the Willamette and Columbia. Retention days are Thursday-Friday and Saturday. Sunday-Wednesday are catch and release. STURGEON, SALMON, STEELHEAD and WALLEYE are all present great opportunity on the Columbia for 2009.
I have three motel options. The Red Lion on the Columbia River is located just above the I-5 bridge. I can literally pick you up on there dock in the morning. This is prime Location for Spring Salmon fishing. The Holiday Inn Express in Troutdale is 15 minutes from the Airport and 15 minutes to the FISHERY (private boat launch-campground just below Bonneville Dam). The Columbia Gorge Riverside Lodge is river front property in Stevenson WA just above Bonneville Dam. All three have starting rates around $80 per night when booked through Dan Ponciano Guide Service.
Let's start the new year with prime fishing dates to maximize our CATCHING opportunity. Tight Lines-Dan Ponciano

Sturgeon fishing in the Columbia river has been solid. Good numbers of fish with several keepers (42-60 inch)per day. Water is rising with recent rain, so be careful not to run over drift wood.
Longview to Portland-Vancouver area is holding plenty of Sturgeon. Smelt is the bait of choice. I have been using scent since all of my smelt has been frozen for about a year. Vacuum packed smelt with a touch of secret sauce is producing very good catch rates.
Winter weather is here so the top is up and the heater on. The higher-muddy water produces good sturgeon fishing opposed to lost Salmon-Steelhead days due to water conditions.
I will be working on Sturgeon most days until the water is clear enough to catch Steelhead in the Lewis.
December is prime time to catch Steelhead in the Lewis. Hope your having a great fall! Give me a shout if I can help you catch more fish!

August Fishing on the Columbia River
I'll be headed to Astoria from the 15th to the end of the month to target fall kings and silvers. The forecast is encouraging for kings (380,000) and it sounds like we'll have to work a little harder for our silvers. The bag limit is 2 salmon, one king and one silver. Prime dates start the 15th and run through the 29th. Open dates for Buoy 10 are Aug 19, 24-25, 27-29.

Greeting, Sturgeon fishing on the Columbia River is in full swing. Water flow has been near 400,000 cfs at Bonneville. This is great for the Sturgeon spawn. Faster water below the Dam keeps predacious fish away from the eggs allowing better survival. Oversize fishing has been solid with 3-5 hookups on the big boys per day. Shad is the go to bait. The shad numbers over the Dam are lower than past years but still plenty to catch for bait in the morning.
Estuary Sturgeon has been spotty at best. The overall catch per rod is down from years past. Anchovies and Shrimp are the best bait at this time. Hammond to Rice Island has produced the best fishing. Don't set in the same place if you're not catching fish. Sturgeon move a bunch every day and every tide. Stay mobile and keep fresh baits on the hook. When you land on them there are awesome keepers out there. I fished two days in the Estuary. We landed 3 nice keepers on day one with 5 rods. Second day we had 53, 56, 57 inch keepers for 3 rods.
Summer Salmon opens this weekend and runs through the 28th of June. These are "June Hogs" and some of the finest Salmon all year. The Fall Salmon season starts August 1 and will run at least to the end of the month for Buoy 10. Prime time is the last 2 weeks of August. Please plan ahead and book early to take advantage of some awesome fishing.

Greetings! The Columbia River is the place to be for Spring Salmon. This is the best Springer opportunity in years. The River is clear and the fish are here. The season will run until the end of April so if you want to catch the "cotton candy" of Salmon, NOW IS THE TIME.
Trolling cut plug herring, Quick-Fish,Spinners, Spin-glow, wigglers, wobblers or eggs. Fish the way you feel best and put the hurt on these awesome eating Salmon.
Sturgeon in the Columbia is slow at best. The Keeper size fish have been tough to find. Don't worry too much as the Sturgeon bite will pick up in the next couple weeks. Make time to enjoy this opportunity-
Be Safe and catch lots of fish. -Dan Ponciano
